Ten Years Later: the Power of Forgiveness

“For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things that are seen, but at the things which are unseen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.” 2 Corinthians 4:17,18 (NKJV)

January 26th 2012 marked the ten year anniversary of Spencer’s death. Ten years seems like a long time and I guess it is. Yet I can look back to that night, and the extraordinary painful and dark journey immediately following and it seems like yesterday. It still makes me draw a deep breath. And of course I miss my beautiful son. Having not seen him in ten years makes the weight of loss at times seem harder to bear rather than lighter, as many may think.

Yet there is a “ far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory” in the hand of an Almighty and Sovereign God, a scale He holds and the balance He determines; His love, His mercy and redeeming grace spill into the other side, the eternal side, like a river of light, tipping the scale down with its glorious fullness until the opposite side, the temporal side, which weighs in as “a moment”, filled with our tears and sorrow, ignorant in our limited vision, is lifted up, becoming weightless in His hands, until it seems as a “light affliction”.

This page chronicles a celebration, held at Victory Chapel January 27th, called “The Power of Forgiveness, Ten Years Later”. I was blown away by the response. Read my blog, “Power of Forgiveness” for the details behind the scenes. As with all divinely inspired events, the night only showcased a small piece of all God has done through Spencer’s life and death, enough to just say, “Wow. He really is an awesome God!” There is so much more to tell, and much more to come. He is not finished. The scale tips farther and I am speechless before His glory. Thank you Jesus, for leading me through the Valley of Baca and making all my tears a spring of life. Only You can bind the broken-hearted and pierce the darkness with Your marvelous, wondrous light!
